Modustech external hardware modules are fully compatible with modern gaming consoles, making them an excellent solution for expanding your game library storage. Follow this quick guide to set up your drive on PlayStation or Xbox.

Important Console Rules (Sony & Microsoft Policy)

  • PS4 / Xbox One: You can store and play compatible games directly from the external drive.
  • PS5 / Xbox Series X|S: You can store current-gen games on your Modustech drive to save space, but you cannot play them directly from the external drive. Because current-gen games require internal Ultra-High-Speed SSD speeds to run, you must quickly copy them back to the console’s internal storage when you are ready to play.

1. How to Set Up on PlayStation (PS4 or PS5)

  1. Connect your Modustech drive directly to one of the high-speed USB ports on your console (avoid using a USB hub).

  2. Navigate to Settings > Storage.

  3. Select Extended Storage (or USB Extended Storage on PS5).

  4. Choose Format as USB Extended Storage.

  5. Note: This will erase any existing data on the drive and optimize it completely for your PlayStation.

2. How to Set Up on Xbox (Xbox One or Series X|S)

  1. Plug your Modustech drive into an available USB port on your Xbox.
  2. A pop-up notification will automatically appear asking how you plan to use the drive.
  3. Select Format Storage Device.
  4. Give your drive a name, and choose whether you want games to download to this drive by default.
  5. Note: The console will completely wipe and reformat the file system for Xbox use.
Console Troubleshooting

If your console doesn’t recognize the drive immediately, ensure you are plugging directly into the console’s rear high-speed ports and using the high-speed USB cable provided in your Modustech box.
