Modustech external hardware modules are fully compatible with modern gaming consoles, making them an excellent solution for expanding your game library storage. Follow this quick guide to set up your drive on PlayStation or Xbox.
Connect your Modustech drive directly to one of the high-speed USB ports on your console (avoid using a USB hub).
Navigate to Settings > Storage.
Select Extended Storage (or USB Extended Storage on PS5).
Choose Format as USB Extended Storage.
Note: This will erase any existing data on the drive and optimize it completely for your PlayStation.
If your console doesn’t recognize the drive immediately, ensure you are plugging directly into the console’s rear high-speed ports and using the high-speed USB cable provided in your Modustech box.
Yes, absolutely. All Modustech external drives—including portable HDDs, desktop drives, and high-speed SSDs—are fully compatible with macOS right out of the box.
Here is what you need to know to get connected:
Leave it as exFAT (Recommended): Keep this format if you regularly share files between a Mac and a Windows PC.
Reformat to APFS: If you plan to use the drive only on modern Macs and want to use it as a Time Machine backup drive, we recommend reformatting it to APFS via Mac’s built-in Disk Utility.
If you plug the drive in and don’t see it on your desktop, open Finder > Settings > General, and make sure the box for “External disks” is checked. If you need help reformatting your drive for a Mac-only environment, check out our step-by-step How to Format Your Drive guide.
Most Smart TVs support Modustech drives for playing videos, photos, and music. Use these quick steps to ensure a smooth connection:
Smart TVs are highly specific about file systems. Most models (Samsung, LG, Sony) only recognize exFAT or FAT32. If your drive is formatted to a PC-only (NTFS) or Mac-only (APFS) format, your TV will not read it.
Use the Right Port: Plug the drive into a TV USB port labeled HDD Rec or USB 5V 1A—these ports provide the extra power required to spin up external hardware.
Avoid Hubs: Always connect the drive directly to the TV using the high-speed USB-C cable included in your box.
Some smart TVs have a storage limit (e.g., maximum 2TB or 4TB drive size capacities). Check your TV user manual if the drive is formatted correctly but still fails to load.
